Project Highlight: C-139 Annex: Western Everglades Restoration Project
Adkins Building & Construction, a General Contractor (CGC1528214) located in Bradenton, Florida, is pleased to announce a partnership with Ranger Construction to build a flow control annex building in Hendry County, Florida as part of a much larger Everglades restoration project. Adkins Building & Construction brings many decades of commercial construction expertise to the project and is excited to participate in this unique environmental restoration project.ย
For this project, we will be implementing the following restoration strategies to the C-139 Flow Equalization Basin (FEB). This area is approximately 2,9000 acres:ย
Restoration Strategies:
- Restoring ecological connectivity and ecological resilience to the historic wetland/upland ecosystem
- Restoring freshwater flow paths, timings, flow volumes, and sheet flow distributions.
- Reducing wildfires caused by altered hydrology in the western Everglades
- Restoring water levels.
- Reestablishing and maintaining native fauna and flora
- Restoring low aquatic nutrients (oligotrophic).ย
There are some additional proposed features to be included in the project. One of the major ones being a 3,420-acre North Feeder STA. This will treat water from the North Feeder Canal Basin to meet the 13 ppb TP (FWM) Canal improvement plan. Inside Pond 5N & 5S, flows from the STA are released into the L-3 Canal toward the northwest corner of WCA 3A.
