Industrial Vs Commercial Construction

There are many types of construction that a company could specialize in. Despite being similar, there are significant differences between these two types. The construction of businesses that deal with manufacturing goods like power plants, refineries and manufacturing plants is called industrial construction. Commercial construction is the construction of businesses or ventures with the sole purpose of making money.

Commercial and industrial construction are distinct from the beginning of the building design phase. Service-oriented businesses are often housed in commercial buildings. Therefore, the floor plans of commercial buildings must encourage foot traffic and tenant satisfaction. Commercial design includes both the interior and exterior aesthetics. Industrial design focuses on coordination of manufacturing and distribution. Functionality will also be a key focus. Industrial construction will place more importance on logistics than aesthetics. Designs will be focused on safety and efficiency.

Commercial and industrial construction projects are different. Before a commercial building owner can open its doors, they need to complete the necessary permits and occupancy requirements. You will not need to get approval from anyone else than the local planning and zoning board for commercial properties. Industrial design requires approval from local boards. However, you must also meet the numerous permitting requirements set out by federal, state and local agencies. Establishing vendors and tenants is key to your success when you are building shopping malls, grocery stores, or business parks in commercial projects. General contractors are responsible for coordinating suppliers and subcontractors to ensure that a commercial project succeeds. Industrial construction often requires materials and craftsmanship that are beyond the scope of commercial projects. Industrial construction projects can be more difficult because they require on-site equipment assembly, custom fabrication, large-scale installations, and other specialized work.

It is important to anticipate possible problems before you start a new project. These potential problems will be identified by a professional industrial construction company that has years of experience in the industry and will be able solve them quickly. Adkins Building and Construction can help you get started with your next industrial construction project.
