James P. Adkins
President and CEO
James has been a leader in the construction industry for over 25 years. His unique and varied portfolio includes managing field engineering (plumb, level & square) on high-rise condominium towers, surveying and staking large civil/underground utility projects, and designing and building a wide array of luxury custom homes and renovations. James is a graduate of The University of Kentucky and a Licensed General Contractor in the state of Florida. James is active in his community and serves on the Board of Directors for Manatee County Habitat for Humanity and the Manatee County Historical Commission. He is also a ‘24 Graduate of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce Leadership Manatee.
Melvin ‘JR’ Schoch Jr.
Vice President / COO
Melvin has over 20 years of residential and commercial construction experience. He is an expert in interior fit and finish and offers our clients a broad and unique range of commercial, industrial & residential construction management capabilities. He also serves as Vice President of Adkins and acts as a Senior Estimator. Being very active in all aspects of projects, Melvin also often serves as the lead problem preventer, for which his previous career in Law Enforcement has trained him well! Melvin has attained advanced certifications in construction management programs such as BuilderTrend.
Jesse May
Foreman
Jesse serves as the Foreman at Adkins Building & Construction, bringing with him over 20 years of hands-on experience in the construction industry. His deep knowledge of the trades, coupled with his leadership skills, plays a vital role in managing our field production operations. Jesse oversees daily job site activities, coordinates crews, ensures adherence to project timelines, and upholds the highest standards of quality and safety.
Brian Davis
General Contractor
Brian is a licensed General Contractor who, for the past 25 years, has been managing custom building projects in Honolulu, Hawaii and Marin County, California. Brian’s extensive knowledge of construction management ensures our projects are completed on time, on budget and with the highest quality. On his days off, Brian competes in Ironman triathlons and practices his love of custom woodworking.
Kim Karl
Project Coordinator
Kim is Adkins Building & Construction’s Project Coordinator and Office Manager. She has over 25 years experience as a professional administrator and she oversees the daily operations of the office and assists the Project Managers with scheduling, permitting, contracts, AP & AR. Kim has earned advanced certifications in project management programs such as BuilderTrend.
Ossel Barillas
Field Superintendent
Ossel Barillas brings a strong combination of leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on experience to his role as Field Superintendent at Adkins Building & Construction. With a solid background in overseeing on-site operations, Ossel plays a key role in ensuring that each project is executed with precision, efficiency, and a focus on quality.
